Asheville’s only moped shop, dealing selectively in vintage Puch, Tomos and MBK mopeds, and our own exclusive American-made and engineered Briton Bee Motorcyclette. What is a Briton Bee, you ask? (tip: Briton -- rhymes with Triton). In the pioneering spirit that has characterized man’s 100-plus year love affair with all things two-wheeled, Briton Bees are the newest contender on the moped scene, a fusion of motorized and pedaled cruisers. Briton Bees styling is reminiscent of the early 1900’s board-track racers and motorcycles, but the riding technology is 21st century. Briton’s are manufactured out of aircraft grade steel that is super strong yet very lightweight. Completely handcrafted, all Briton parts are made in the USA. The Italian-made Franco Morini motors are top of the line brand new two-stroke engines, engineered for racing bikes. And all Briton’s come with a three-month full warranty on all component parts.

Moped vs. Motorcyclette

So you’ve looked at the bikes, you’ve read all the specs, and maybe, after checking in the wallet, you’re beginning to wonder “why would I want to buy a Briton when I can get a Tomos (or Puch or MBK) for so much cheaper?” While it is true that you can pick up one of our vintage mopeds for only 4-5 bills, there are a few more questions to ask yourself before doing so.

Do I know anything about engines and am I willing to learn?
Most mopeds engines are vintage 1970’s engines that need varying amounts of TLC. If you enjoy tinkering on motors and cannibalizing old bikes for parts, then this could be an option for you.

Do I have another two hundred bucks to put into my tires (or carb or electrical or...) in the next few weeks/ months?
Our cheaper mopeds are so cheap because they need your love and care (and money). Yes, you will be able to ride it home. But something, possibly very soon, will need to be replaced. The Motorcyclettes roll out the door fully equipped and ready to ride, and come with a three-month guarantee on all component parts.

Can I carry this bike up to my not-on-the-ground-floor apartment?
Older mopeds generally weigh around 125 lbs. Briton Bees are not much heavier than your regular bicycle. Briton’s will also fit on bicycle roof racks and go on vacation with you.

Do I want to be the first to own a modern classic?
Briton Bees, with their classic styling and fuel efficiency, are already collectible. With our Limited Edition series and ever-evolving styles, the bike you buy today may not be available next week. But, thanks to our high quality construction and product guarantees, your children will still be riding it long after you’re gone.

I like to pimp my ride. Can I do that with a Briton?
Briton Bees are fully customizable from the get-go. You choose your style, either MotorDrone or BioCyclette, and go wild from there. Colors, handlebars, seats, baskets and accessories, forks and fender -- you dream it, we deliver it to your front door. Mopeds are customizable as well, but on your own time. For racing purposes, both Briton and moped engines can be kitted to go as fast as you dare.
